I am sorry to report to the club that two of our officers will be moving out of state. Phil Osczepinski has accepted a new job in Birmingham and will be moving there within the next two weeks. Carl Foster/ Prez Competition Corner:
Tick..tick...tick... We're counting down to the start of the Fall Carolina Brewer of The Year competition season. By the time we have our August club meeting, registration will be open for the Blue Ridge Brew Off in Asheville, NC. We don't have to wait even that long for competition action. We'll be judging the Club-Only competition at our July meeting on Monday Night. The category is #7 Amber Hybrid Beers including Northern German Altbier, California Common, and Dusseldorf Altbier. Please bring bottles for judging and shipping, should you win. Looking ahead just a little, we'll have the Club-Only competition for European Amber Lagers at the September meeting. This will include the Vienna lagers and Oktoberfest. We've just crested the hill for the year 2009 and are beginning to accelerate down the back side. Things are going to start happening fast in the competition world. Let's get to bottling those beers brewed in the late spring. Let's get our equipment and recipes ready for when we start brewing again. Let's get our beers entered into these competitions this fall and WIN the FIRKIN back! It’s my final month as acting VP of Education and Recruitment and I’ve had a wonderful time these last 6 months. To replace me, PSB has asked David Merz to step up to the role. This month before I leave, there will be lesson on beer blending and mixing. This can be incredibly broad, but we will be focusing more on the blending of commercial beers. Best of all there will be an extensive amount of tasting involved in this lesson. Finally, on Wednesday, July 15th, there will be a going away party for me at the Flying Saucer at 7pm. It would be wonderful to see everyone before I leave. So, please feel free to come and to invite anyone. Report from the VP of Social Events: Hey all, just a few eventful things going on in July! Here's the highlights: Brewsession: Saturday, July 18th at Brad and Liz's home. Check the forum soon for details. Get your brews ready for Charlotte Octoberfest! If you aren't donating beer, buy a ticket and loosen your belt for one of the finest festivals in the South East! Asheville Brewgrass tickets are SOLD OUT, but you may be able to score them online if you missed buying 'em months ago. Discussion of our Asheville beer trip at July's meeting. Be there and put in your two cents! Finally, a big thanks to Phil and Adam for helping out with the club this year, they will be missed! Phil has already left for Alabama, but come out and buy Adam a brew this Wednesday, the 15th, at 7pm at the Saucer! Brew on! Secretary/Treasurer's Report: (As of June.
