From the President:

Palmetto State Brewers did a remarkable job in 2007. We brewed home brewed beer, entered our wares in the CBoY competitions, and WON, hands down, the title “2007 Home Brew Club of The Year”. Yea Palmetto State Brewers!
PSB will be presented the coveted Firkin trophy this week end at the US Open competition in Charlotte. We’ll show it off at Monday’s meeting. CONGRATULATIONS PSB!

I trust that everyone is brewing and entering in the competitions. This is a great way to get feed-back on your beers, and is the only way our club can maintain our position as The Premier Brew Club of the Carolinas.

A special thanks goes out to Sonja and Mark at Bet-Mar for hosting a successful and fun Big Brew Day. Thanks too to all that participated.

I would like to call everyone’s attention to our Beer Ambassador, Gerald Jowers. His beer articles published in Columbia’s “Free Times” are informative and enjoyable. Check out this week’s article at:

Thank you Gerald!

Please be reminded that the summer is a good time to brew with Belgian yeasts. These yeasts like the warmer temperatures. KEEP BREWING.

Monday, May 12th is our next club meeting at Zorba’s. Dinner at 6:00, meeting at 7:00, and BE SURE TO BRING HOME BREW.
GO PSB!

Competition Corner:

Pete is under the weather, and we won't have another club-only until July. It will be meads.

Report from the VP of Education and Recruitment:

Big Brew Day was an unqualified success! Thanks to all that brewed, judged, participated and spread the gospel of PSB! As usual, we garnered a lot of interest and met a lot of like minded brewers. Great job to all!
Speaking of great brew gatherings, a few of our members attended what is arguably one of the most exciting brew goings-on in the country, none other than "Dark Lord Day". Our very own Dan "Dark Lord" Adams will expound upon the experience as well as the wealth of offerings dealing with "beer culture" in general. Looking forward to it!

Report from the VP of Social Events:May! Events? Why, yes....

COAST Brewing comes to town on May 22nd! Jaime and David, brewers from Charleston, will be hosting a beer dinner at Saluda's in Five Points. There will be a wonderful 4 course meal paired with 4 of their beers, and they will be speaking on the trials and tribulations of opening a brewery, Pop the Cap, and what’s ahead for brewing in South Carolina. The meal is $50 all inclusive, call Saluda's for reservations at 799-9500. Check the forum for updates.

And because it sells out well in advance, if you at all interested in attending the Asheville Brewgrass festival, September 20th, head on over to http://www.brewgrassfestival.com and plunk down your $30 for a ticket! This is a wonderful outdoors event featuring a ton of local brewing talent and should not be missed!

We are in need of a host for the May brewsession! We may decide on a location at the monthly meeting, watch this space...

Don't forget that next month is the famous Beach Brew with Brian Mosley at Pawley's Island. Sign up and come join us!
