From the President:

Congratulations to all that entered beers in the BBG competition. Special congrats to PSB’s Robert Leach for scoring 12 points and is currently very close to first place for the 2008 Carolina Brewer of the Year. Keep up the good work Robert!

The last CBoY competition for 2008 will be the PSBO10, scheduled for December 6th.
If ever there was a competition to enter your brewing handiwork, THIS IS THE COMPETITION TO ENTER! PSB is currently in 3rd place in the CBoY competition, and the only way we can maintain the coveted Firkin’ Trophy for “Brew Club Of The Year” is if EVERYONE in the club enters as many home brewed beers as they have. GO PSB!

PSB’s fall party will be held on November 15th at the police hut near the Zoo. Home brewed beer and Low Country Boil will be the theme. Bring your camping gear and stay overnight! Sign up to help at Monday’s meeting.

All About Beer magazine’s “World Beer Festival” will be held in Columbia on January 24th. PSB has agreed to give physical help to this spectacular event. Thirty volunteers are needed to help with set up, beer and ice distribution, and clean up. Volunteers will be rewarded with free entry, t shirts, participation in the after party, and a special volunteer’s party. Our club will be rewarded with future event sponsorships from AAB. Sound like fun?!...your doggoneright it does!

Monday, November 10th is our next club meeting at Zorba’s. Dinner at 6:00, meeting at 7:00, and BE SURE TO BRING HOME BREW.
GO PSB!

Carl Foster/Prez

Competition Corner:

Congratulations to Carl Foster, Robert Leach and Marsha Dowda for their success at the Battleground Brewers Guild competition earlier this month. Robert has seven new ribbons to add to his collection including a blue ribbon for a Schwarzbier. Carl also earned seven ribbons including a blue ribbon for a Brown Porter. Marsha picked up a third place ribbon for a “Specialty Beer.” I hope she brings it to the next meeting so we can all taste how special it is! Great job everyone.

This will be our last meeting before the 10th Annual Palmetto State Brewers Open. Please sign up and volunteer to judge, steward or help out in some way. There will also be a sign up sheet for food items and the associated necessities. We are expecting a lot of entries so we need everyone to pitch in where they can.

In preparation for the judging I’ll be going over the responsibilities of the stewards and judges as well as passing around sample forms and explaining how to fill them out. Most of us know these forms so I’ll be brief.

There will also be an AHA competition at this month’s meeting. We will be judging IPAs. Please bring your best and we’ll put them to the test! The winning ale will be shipped off to Ohio for AHA judging on the 6th of December.

Belgian and French ales (looking at you Carl and Phil) will be the next AHA Club-Only competition and we will judge those next month. Those entries will be due by 01/09/09 so drag out what you have left over from the PSBO10. This will be the final competition of the year!

Report from the VP of Education and Recruitment:

Fellow Brewers, the PSBO is looming on the horizon. Time to dust off the BJCP guidelines and hone your judging skills! For those that haven’t judged before as well as those that have, our very own Pete Goodwin will go over the finer points of filling out a scoresheet. Topics will include completeness, legibility, (Gerald!) etc… It promises to enlighten as well as delight! In the meantime I encourage you to review the scoresheets here: http://www.bjcp.org/docs/SCP_BeerScoreSheet.pdfRemember, “a properly filled out scoresheet is the window to a man’s soul” (or something along those lines…)

Report from the VP of Social Events:

Daniel Adams is the VP of social events. Feel free to harass him at the next meeting for being late on submitting his portion.

Secretary/Treasurer's Report:

PSB has $3726.33 and 57 members in good standing

Overdue: Ron Anderson, Moffatt Bradford, Betsy Russell
Due Now: Joseph Ackerman, Mark Simoneau, Isaac White

FYI: I will be out of town during the November meeting. Sign up sheets for the food for the club party and the competition will be available at the meeting. There will also be a sign up sheet going around for judges and stewards. Carl will bring the new club glasses for those that have not received one. If you would like to purchase additional glasses, they are $5.
