The Battleground Brewers Guild (BBG) will hold their CBOY sanctioned competition on November 1st in Greensboro. They need help with judging and stewards, so sign up when you register your beers on line at http://www.battlegroundbrewers.com/. The last CBOY competition of the year will be the PSBO10, scheduled for December 6th. There IS time to brew another batch or two to be ready in time. Dinner at 6:00, meeting at 7:00, and BE SURE TO BRING HOME BREW. Carl Foster/Prez Competition Corner:
There are several competitions on the horizon for the competitively inclined brewer to enjoy. First up we have the Battleground Brewers Guild scheduled for November 1st. This is part of the CBOY competition and wins here are needed to help us in the points. Right now PSB is currently in third place and needs to make up some ground if we have any hope to keep the coveted firkin here with the PSB. At our meeting on Monday we need to discuss combined shipping to get our entries to Greensboro. Their website and entry details can be found here: BattlegroundBrewers.com. The following weekend is the Bay Street Bash. That’s right, November 8th is the date for the Savannah Brewers League’s annual beer and cider competition. It sound like a lot of fun and SBL has requested our support with entries and personnel. Volunteer judges are being provided with lunch and complimentary tickets to the Roundhouse Blues & BBQ Festival (while supplies last). This competition is for beer and ciders only so you mead makers will have to wait for their dedicated competition in February. Entries are $6 each. Registration opens October 15th and continues through October 31st. As with the BBG we can schedule a drop off with the SBL if there is enough interest. Oh, and as a bonus incentive the Best of Show winner will be brewed by the Moon River Brewing Company and put on tap for their patrons. December 6th is the date for the 10th Annual Palmetto State Brewers Open. As usual we will need everyone to pitch in and make it a success. We will start the sign up sheets at Monday’s meeting and regular updates will be made on the forum. The event will once again be held at Jaderloon. Thanks to Dan Derrick for his hand in getting the venue. To sign up your entries or to judge or steward then please visit: The Official PSBO10 Website. Registrations will be accepted between November 1st and November 24th at 5pm. Sign up early to receive the best karma. Lets all pull together and make PSBO10 a huge success! There is no AHA Club Only competition this month. Next month will be IPAs. For those that would like to obtain or advance their BJCP certification check out what Adam has posted in the forum. He has signed up to take the BJCP exam on February 28th through a Yahoo users group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/beerstud/). You will first need to contact Mike Dixon at mpdixon@ipass.net before you can be added to the group. As expected, PSB made a fine showing at the Oktoberfest! It seems many of our brewer's are developing quite a following! We passed out many business cards and stimulated quite a bit of interest in homebrewing. I'm quite sure new members will be the result! Congratulations to all who participated on a job very well done! Report from the VP of Social Events: If you're reading this, congratulations! We've survived the tripel-threat of Brewgrass, Charlotte Ofest and Durham World Beer festival.
